TriWest Referral Authorization Instructions

If you are using TriWest Community Care, you will usually need an active referral and authorization before scheduling chiropractic care and/or massage therapy at Honolulu Wellness Group. First, request the referral from your PCM/VA provider. Next, confirm your authorization is active and lists the correct services. Finally, call our office to schedule once approval is verified.

Important: TriWest approvals, timelines, and visit limits are determined by TriWest and the referring provider. Therefore, Honolulu Wellness Group cannot submit TriWest referrals on your behalf.

TriWest Referral Instructions: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Request the Referral

First, contact your Primary Care Manager (PCM) or VA provider and request a referral through TriWest Community Care for chiropractic care and/or massage therapy.

When you request the referral, ask your provider to specify the service type clearly: Chiropractic and/or Massage Therapy (if clinically appropriate).

  • Your PCM / VA Primary Care Provider
  • Military Treatment Facility PCM (if Active Duty)

Timelines vary by case and referring provider. However, if approval is delayed, follow up with your referring provider and/or TriWest/VA Community Care.


Step 2: Confirm Authorization Details

Next, confirm your authorization is active and includes:

  • Authorized service type (Chiropractic and/or Massage Therapy)
  • Number of visits approved
  • Effective date and expiration date
Important: Massage therapy must be explicitly listed on the authorization to schedule massage visits.

Step 3: Schedule With Our Office

Finally, once your TriWest authorization is active, call us to schedule: 808-591-9339.

Do I need a TriWest referral before scheduling?

Yes. TriWest Community Care patients typically need an active referral and authorization before scheduling chiropractic care and/or massage therapy.

Can Honolulu Wellness Group request the referral for me?

No. Referrals are submitted by your PCM/VA provider or Military Treatment Facility provider. Our office cannot initiate TriWest referrals.

Who should I contact to request or check my referral authorization?

What if massage therapy is not listed on my authorization?

Massage therapy must be explicitly authorized. If it is not listed, contact your referring provider to request an updated authorization.

What happens if my authorization expires?

Visits generally cannot continue after the authorization expires. Contact your referring provider to request an extension or a new referral.
